Blogging on Chrome OS: Installing a theme from Themegrill

Introduction

A great feature of WordPress is that you can change the look and feel of a blog using themes.

A good source for themes is, e.g., Themegrill.

I use the ColorMag Pro theme from there and let it cost me something.

This theme is provided e.g., on Themegrill via download as a zip file:

Here the downloaded file:

Themegrill gives you more tips on how to proceed when downloading:

Uploading as Zip file

You can now upload the packed theme to your WordPress instance under β€œAppearance” β‡’ β€œThemes” β‡’ β€œAdd Themes” β‡’ β€œUpload Theme” β‡’ β€œChoose File:”

Manual Installation

Unzipping a file under Chrome OS

If you download this zip file, e.g., to a Chromebook, you can quickly unpack it with Chrome OS tools.

To do that, navigate to the location of the file in the Files app:

If you double-click the zip file, the contents of the file will be opened directly by the Zip Archiver:

From there you can copy the content to a desired location:

Setting up a theme manually in your WordPress

At this point, I refer to Google, as this requires particular WordPress expertise, which I only deal with here in the blog to a limited extent.

Activating the Theme

Most of the time, you will have to enter a license code to be allowed to use the theme on your blog. Have you finished that, you can activate your theme here:

In the screenshot, I have already activated the ColorMag Pro theme. You can see on the right side of the theme Twenty Twenty what it looks like when it is not activated. You can simply click on β€œActivate.”

And that’s it!

Hey! πŸ˜€ I started this blog in 2018. Fitting to the blog, I want to describe myself as a true β€œGoogle Sheep,” incredibly addicted to travel and open-minded. I like traveling the world and creating digital content on Chrome OS, travel, and mobile work.
